ABOUT US
Soper Construction Co. was founded on April 1, 1961 by Clarence "Bud" Soper. Initially a landscape company, the entire operation was based out of a garage on 65 High Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts. A reputation for arriving to the job on time and staying until it was done began to build a satisfied customer base and gave Bud the ability to buy his first machine: a 1948 Ford 8N tractor. With an oil drum cut in half for a bucket, it was the multipurpose tool used to move material, lift tree limbs, and plow snow (no cab, mind you).
In 1965, after working for the town of Southbridge clearing the elm trees decimated by Dutch Elm disease, Bud moved the company to its current location in Southbridge. He also started a garden center in Sturbridge and began to move more toward larger excavation work in Sturbridge, Dudley, Charlton, Brimfield, Oxford and other nearby towns in Central Massachusetts.

The business grew and expanded along with the surrounding towns and in the late 1980s Southbridge began to build three new schools. Soper Construction was called in as an excavation subcontractor for Lawler Construction on the Charlton Street School. Halfway through the project Lawler went bankrupt. Knowing the bonding company needed a new excavation contractor for all 3 schools, but having never done a job of this size before, Bud stepped up. The schools were completed and Bud Soper had made a name for himself.
The Soper name continued to grow throughout the years, as calls for construction and excavation services extended into house building, with projects in towns all across South Central Massachusetts, from Auburn to Brimfield and Holland.
Residential subdivisions and major commercial projects (JI Morris Company, Gentex) became commonplace. Today Soper Construction is a million-dollar operation capable of just about any construction endeavor. The one constant has been the reputation for reliable service and the goal of outstanding customer satisfaction, no matter the cost.
